Driven: the Newly Redesigned SLK 350

The recently redesigned Mercedes-Benz SLK 350 convertible will not be known for its height, but its 3.5 liter, 6 cylinder, 7-speed transmission engine provides plenty of ferocity.  This is the model that reviewer, Josh Max from the New York Daily News, was given, and he couldn’t stop raving about the roadster that “packs a punch”.

The SLK-350 comes with three different engines; a 4 cylinder turbo, a V8 and a V 6.  Prices start at a modest $54,800 for the base engine, and naturally rise from there as you move up in power. The list of SLK goodies is long and luxurious, too. Smart-looking 18-inch wheels, fine interior wood trim, LED daytime running lamps, adaptive bi-xenon headlamps, heated seats, keyless start, leather seats, 8-way power sports seats and 11-speaker, 500-wattharman/kardon surround sound system.

In the review, Max states, “I carved corners, stepped on it when the coast was clear, spun the car’s racy flat-bottom steering wheel left and right to my heart’s content.”

The 2013 Mercedes-Benz SL550

Lisa of The Chronicle Herald drove the 2013 Mercedes-Benz SL550 through the bluffs of Novia Scotia and compared the drive to a spa treatment.  The comfort of the luxurious Nappa leather-wrapped seat put her in la-la land for a while, but was recalled by the rev of the turbo-charged 8 cylinder engine.

In her article, she writes, “This 2013 Mercedes-Benz SL550 is a roadster that indulges the driver (and passenger) with top-of-the-line comfort but a race-car that’s perpetually seething just below the surface. Truly Sport Leicht as the SL designation states. Mercedes-Benz first all-aluminum body is leicht all right, 275 lbs lighter than the previous SL 550.”

Mercedes-Benz has been working hard to make their 2013 vehicles better than the 2012 models.  They’ve been breaking sales records so far this year and don’t intend to stop making the consumers happy.  Lighter, better and faster is what you’ll find in any Mercedes-Benz.  If you’re ready to take a look at one, or just want to find out more, contact Mercedes-Benz of Lynnwood.

Mercedes E300 BlueTEC Wows With Performance and Fuel-Efficiency

The Mercedes-Benz E300 BlueTEC hybrid is the world’s most economical luxury executive saloon and goes on sale later this year.  With a claim such as this, and with such a close release date, you can guess how many automotive reviewers and test drivers have been asking to try out the luxurious gas-sipping hybrid.  Andrew English, of ‘The Telegraph’ newspaper, says that Mercedes isn’t just talking big with the E300 BlueTEC, they’re delivering big.

In his review article, English wrote, ” Mercedes has eschewed the twin-motor, hybrid transmission-based system it jointly developed, and effectively replaced the automatic transmission’s torque converter with an electric motor (it uses the AMG wet clutch system instead).   The result is a top speed of 150mph, 0-62mph in 7.5sec and a range (driven gently) of more than 870 miles – that’s Land’s End to John O’Groats and back to Newcastle for a pint of Brown before closing time.”

Driven – the 2013 Mercedes-Benz SL63 AMG

Motor Authority got their hands on the car everyone in the auto industry has been wanting to get their take for a spin – the 2013 Mercedes-Benz SL 63 AMG.  The lucky reviewer of the vehicle went to the French Riviera and test drove the SL through towns like Saint Tropez, Nice and Cannes.  Probably one of the best days of his life.

In his published review, Bengt Halvorson from Motor Authority wrote, “The current SL feels more sports-car-like, with its brawny 530-hp, twin-turbo AMG-built V-8 (instead of the SL 550′s 429-hp 4.6-liter) and reworked seven-speed automatic transmission—with AMG replacing the torque converter with a wet clutch pack and capable of smacking from one gear to another in as little as a tenth of a second.”

He goes on to rave about the sport’s car Sport Mode and approve the changes that have been made recently.  If you’d like to be the first civilian to take a new 2013 for a test drive, contact Mercedes-Benz of Lynnwood.

Mercedes Introduces the Redone 2013 G63 AMG

Mercedes unveiled their revamped 2013 G-Class during the New York International Auto Show, in the shape of the 2013 G63 AMG which arrives in showrooms in August.  The premier luxury off-road vehicle has a new engine, better technology, redone console and dash, new safety features and restyled exterior, among other things.

Perhaps the biggest change is under the hood which now sports an eight-cylinder bi-turbo engine. For those who consider fuel economy when looking at features, there will be a stop-start feature to turn off the engine at stoplights to conserve gas.

“Our G-Class has been a force to be reckoned with for the last 33 years. In its latest evolutionary stage, it offers state-of-the-art, powerful engines, a further improved range of luxurious appointments and the very latest safety features, as well, of course, as its now legendary off-road capabilities. At the same time the design remains true to its down-to-earth, unmistakable style,” says Dieter Zetsche, chairman of Mercedes parent Daimler, in a statement.

The New 2013 Mercedes-Benz GLK

The 2012 New York International Auto Show had many vehicles on display, but 2013 Mercedes-Benz GLK was among the most thrilling.  Though the new GLK only receives a refreshed and restyled front end, the effect is excellent and should keep the GLK in its top-selling position.

The biggest change the 2013 GLK receives is the 250 Bluetec trim which will be standard for the model year.  We have been told this 4 cylinder diesel engine is the most powerful ever to power an SUV.  The direct-injected 250 Bluetec engine is 2.1 liters with 190HP and 369 lb ft of torque.  The GLK 350 will have a 3.5 liter 6 cylinder engine with 302HP and 273 lb ft of torque.  Both engines are mated to a seven-speed automatic transmission.

The entire front end has been restyled and new 19-inch alloys are standard. The model now comes standard with LED daytime running lights and LED accent lighting lower in the bumper.  Inside, the transmission shifter has been moved from the center console to the steering-wheel column.

Mercedes has introduced us to the redesigned MLC.  This 2014 model has a very low roofline and a few design cues from the CLS and will have a big rear hatch and folding back seats.  Crossovers are being evermore popular and Mercedes is giving their customers exactly what they want: a luxury car that’s doesn’t compromise and is high on the “cool” factor.

The 2014 model MLC will be based on the new ML’s, but about 200 pounds lighter. It will get the current ML’s suspension with the next generation GL’s air springs. Buyers will have a choice of two engines: a new 3.5-liter twin-turbo V-6 producing around 335 horsepower and a 5.5-liter twin-turbo V-8 with 518HP and up to 550 with the AMG Performance package.

The New Mercedes G-Class With 12 Cylinders

The Mercedes-Benz G-Class SUV is military grade and as fancy as they come.  The folks at Mercedes revealed the newly revised 2013 G-Class, even though it wasn’t planned for a debut until the Bejing Motor Show happening next month.  This brand new G-Class will go on sale in June for European markets, but not until the end of the year for us North Americans.

The exterior was given only subtle changes like a restyled grille with only three slats instead of the old seven slats, new headlamp inserts with LED running lights underneath and different rear-view mirror cases.  There will also be new tail graphics and more choices of alloy wheels.

The big change is the arrival of the first G-Class model to receive a V12 engine.  This engine will go in the new G65 AMG range-topping model, producing 621HP and 737 lb ft of torque.  It takes this much power to propel a 5,500 lb SUV to 62 MPH in 5.2 seconds.
